Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Description:
Seismos is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and prototyping of acoustic wave generation and detection systems for systems like oil & Gas pipelines. The successful candidate will bring expertise in acoustics, coupled with a strong foundation in mechanical systems, fluid dynamics, and hands-on execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acoustic Evaluation and Analysis: Perform analysis and comparative assessments of various acoustic wave generation and detection methods—such as hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, piezoelectric, magnetostrictive, and acoustic projector systems—specifically in the context of pipeline environments.
- System Design and Development:
Architect and optimize high-performance acoustic wave generation and detection systems, using modeling and simulation tools to predict acoustic performance and ensure system reliability.
- Prototyping and Experimental Leadership: Execute and/or supervise the design and fabrication of prototypes, and devise techniques to evaluate performance in laboratory and field settings. Use data-driven approaches to diagnose and resolve technical challenges.
- Integration and Testing:
Develop integration strategies for embedding acoustic systems into pipelines, accounting for real-world conditions. Lead comprehensive testing protocols to validate system performance.
- General Mechanical Solutions: Design for occasional needs beyond the main emphasis of fluid and acoustic systems. This may include mechanical enclosures for electronics, testing and quality-control fixtures, mechanical solutions for transportation/logistics, etc.
- Advanced Material Selection:
Work with materials scientists to identify and specify materials that optimize acoustic performance, structural integrity, and longevity while considering environmental factors and cost constraints.
- Research and Innovation:
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in acoustic technology, fluid-structure interaction research, and materials science. Apply this knowledge to propose and implement innovative solutions that push the boundaries of current technology.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with interdisciplinary teams, including software, electrical, and fluid dynamics engineers, to ensure cohesive system development. Present complex technical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Acoustic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with a focus on acoustic systems in fluid environments.
Experience: 7+ years of experience in designing, modeling, and testing acoustic wave generation systems. A portfolio of successful projects and publications is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in computational tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB) for simulating complex acoustic phenomena and fluid-structure interactions.
- Experience with CAD software for mechanical design.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping and manufacturing processes.
Work environment: This role involves working in a multi-cultural, multi-locational environment and may require travel to field sites (domestic and international) as needed (less than 25%).
