What does

Closed Loop Fracturing

by Seismos & ProFrac enable?

Closed Loop Fracturing at scale enables unprecedented efficiencies, and performance optimization driven by live data interpolation and preconfigured decision trees.

SUPERVISED

  • Engineers and completions teams receive real time, validated subsurface data.
  • On-the-fly adjustments to stage design, fluid placement, and perforation strategy.
  • Ideal for teams wanting human-in-the-loop decision-making backed by real-time measurements.

UNSUPERVISED

  • Automation-ready decision execution based on pre-agreed logic and live data.
  • Reduces operational overhead, increases execution speed, and ensures repeatability.
  • Designed for operators seeking scalable, consistent, automated, and intelligent frac performance.

KEY DIFFERENTIATIONS

By integrating Seismos’ patented acoustic friction analysis SAFA™ with ProFrac's ProPilot™ automation, every stage is measured, verified, and optimized independently in real time. The result:

  • Seamless linkage between surface execution and downhole performance.

  • Unbiased, independent audit of frac quality at operational scale.

  • Instant detection and correction of issues before the stage is complete.

  • Repeatable, optimized completions across fleets and basins.

FAQs

  • What is Closed Loop Fracturing, and how is it different from traditional approaches?

Closed Loop Fracturing is a fully integrated system that connects real-time subsurface measurements from Seismos with ProFrac’s surface automation. Unlike traditional approaches that rely on post-job analysis or assumptions, this system measures, verifies, and optimizes each stage while it’s being pumped , enabling immediate adjustments and repeatable performance across fleets and basins.

  • How does Seismos’ technology act as an independent auditor?

Seismos uses patented acoustic measurements to independently calculate pipe friction, perforation efficiency, and flow distribution for every stage. These metrics are consistent and transparent, providing a verifiable link between surface execution and downhole results — effectively acting as an unbiased audit on completion quality.

  • Will this slow down pumping operations or add non-productive time (NPT)?

No. The measurements are taken using natural or planned rate changes as small as 5 bpm, with sensors installed at surface. There’s no need for downhole tools or additional wireline runs, so there is zero NPT impact.

  • What operational modes are available, and how do they work?

Supervised Mode: Engineers monitor the live data stream and make adjustments manually during the stage.

Unsupervised Mode: The integrated system automatically executes pre-approved decision logic based on real-time results, enabling fully automated closed loop completions.

  • What’s the main value for operators?

Operators gain measured, verifiable performance data for every stage, real-time optimization capability, and standardized execution across pads and basins. This improves recovery, reduces excess fluid and sand while pumping, and enhances vendor accountability - all while scaling a proven, automation-ready workflow.
